Humor in Context

Humour is an interdisciplinary skill !

Intercutural

In this video, Bill Bryson, author of A Short History of Nearly Everything, was discussing differences between American and British humor. For him, British humor is a lot about laughing at yourself. American Humor is slightly different in the way that when he tried make them laugh with British humor, they wouldn’t laugh. One day, his American neighbor asked him about his “nightmare travel experience he’d had.” So, his neighbor asked him “Who were you flying with?”

So, this is what he replied:

That they were all strangers. But apparently, his neighbor didn’t laugh. Of course, in American English “Who were you flying with?” means “Which airline did you take?”
